Art is a young dancer in New York who hasn't been the same since his breakup with his girlfriend Holly. Jimmy is a little boy who doesn't know exactly where he came from; Art takes him under his wing. Shona, an alien merman who has returned to Earth to find a mate, finds out part of the truth about Jimmy's origins and the fate that may befall them. And Jimmy turns out to be more than just a little boy...it's a story that's part retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid," and part something entirely original. Alfred Prufrock" All artwork is copyright Shimizu Reiko - story - Mermaids are a race of aliens who live on a number of planets, including the moon, who return to their homeland, Earth, once in their lifetimes to breed, like salmon. A beautiful mermaid named Seila fell in love with a human and died; Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Mermaid" was based on her story. She left behind three children, Benjamin, Setsu, and Tirt, who were raised by her sisters Sara and Miralda. Her fiancé met another woman and had a son, Shona. Seira's betrayal of the other mermaids caused many of them to be burned as witches. The story starts when Shona comes to Earth, specifically New York, to find a mate, and at about the same time, Seira's three children come to New York as well. Benjamin gets hit by a car, develops amnesia, and forgets about Setsu and Tirt. The man driving the car, Art Gyle, decides to take the little boy, whom he calls "Jimmy," home. (Actually, although Jimmy looks very boyish, she's actually a girl). Meanwhile, Shona is startled at how much things have changed since he was last on Earth...in the 14th century. He finds a community of mermaids and learns the story of Seira and his father. The leader of the community of mermaids has a premonition that something worse than the witch hunts will happen because of Benjamin. Now, it so happens that Jimmy isn't just a young tomboy; in fact, Benjamin's true form is a beautiful woman who looks just like Seila. Benjamin is completely mute in front of Art. Benjamin falls in love with Art, Shona falls in love with Benjamin. That first part is a problem. The leader of the mermaid community is sure that something terrible will happen if Benjamin and Art are together; she thinks that Seila's mistakes in the past can be fixed by Shona and Benjamin being together. + + +
