Message : I have 3 questions to ask whoever owns this restaurant. Are you Thai? If you are Thai, how come you use that symbol as the logo of your restaurant? Do you know the meaning of that symbol? From : Dachrit Nilubol - - dnilubol@yahoo.com - 21/01/2003 15:56 |

Message : Hey Guys, Let's do something quickly.
1.Check the address of this restaurant as it appear on the picture. Where exactly is it in West Desmoines? I checked from Mapquest, it is not too far from the King and I restaurant.. about 3-5 miles to the south of it. We need to check that if this advertisment is legit or just a bogus ad. 2.Call them, if possible, check if either owner, partners, manager happen to be Thai or not. If yes, politely tell them about the symbols, and how meaningful it is for the Thai People. If he/she is not Thail. Then, follow no.3 3.Call Thai Embassy or Thai Consulate office in Chicago and inform them about this. I'll keep the picture on this webboard for awhile before removing it. Hope you guys can make a copy prior to that. 4.Contact to Thai Student Association at the University of Iowa and them know this. We need a troop to rally everything. They'll be with us. 5.Check who the IP address of the poster, who the hell is Lolita Complex? This kind of annoying problem occured last year by a stupid bar in Philadelphia. I believe that the MidWesterner won't be such stubborn as those folks in the East. From : Joe^ - 21/01/2003 19:02 |

Check that links: It appears to be that restaurant is legit, a fine place for Chinese-Thai Cusine. But the owner (See his picture at the bottom of the column) is named Shoua Yang, which I assumed not to be a Thai name. But, he seems to be an oriental guy, which i guess, has more reasonable and understandable mind. Let's do things quickly. I'll update any news I have so far. From : Joe^ - 21/01/2003 19:11 |

Message : I've sent massage to my brother in D.C., and he's forwarded my massage to the ambassador in Thai Embassy. I will let you know what the respond from him.
In my massage, I attached the above photo and explain where the restaurant is and who own it. It is not appropriate, I know, but let the ambassador takes care of this issue. Remember, they did not do anything illegal in this country. All we can do is explaining to them and asking them (in polite manner) to put the sign away. Let's wait a bit for the ambassador. Message : Thanks for this action, Jack.
Lim, you could, but it is off our hand now. Better stay away and keep an eye on. In this case I would tell the owner as to what this symbol represents. Educate them. Since he is potentially Asian, he would recognize how important it is. Last thing, I wish I can hang my hope on Embass.... From : Dach - 23/01/2003 09:11 |

Message : I just got a massage for the Royal Thai Embassy. Her name isSiriporn Supanimitwisetkul [mailto:siriporns@thaiembdc.org]. She said she contected the restuarant to pull the sign down. Also, she thanked us for keeping an eye on the issue.
Now, if anyone drop by at Des Moines, please take a look if they follow the embassy recommendation. All for now... From : Jack... - 27/01/2003 16:37 |
